Join us for a special and unique programme of music that we are excited to be performing.
Adoramus orchestra and choir are performing Dvořák’s ever popular Symphony No.8 in G; drawing its inspiration from his native Bohemia’s (now Czech Republic) folk music and countryside along with his festive Te Deum; written in response to a commission from his future American employer.
We are privileged to present the debut of ‘Missa Brevis’; specially written for Adoramus by our choir member, music lecturer and composer Robin Stephenson. “...Rather than a paragraph of words to describe…” this ’short mass’, Robin would like us to imagine “a photograph. The chorus is the crowd... Their emotions are almost primal as they are anxious and fearful (Kyrie), shouting praise (Gloria), dancing in the beginning of the Laudamus and then suddenly… crying out for mercy (Miserere Nobis) when the orchestra takes on the role of the forces of evil and finally become calm before the Quoniam and Cum Sancto Spiritu…” The point is to try to communicate the words directly to the whole audience...”
