If you are interested in joining any part of Adoramus, please look at the tabs below.
We would love to have you sing with Adoramus for our D-Day 75th Anniversary Concert at the
Albans Arena on Saturday June 29th 2019 as part of a massed choir.
The concert will include the choral title theme from the film “The Longest Day” and the theme to the
Band of Brothers. Other items include the “Hymn to the Fallen” by John Williams the “Agincourt
song” from Walton’s Henry V suite, Vaughan Williams’ Dirge for two veterans, movements from
Haydn’s Nelson Mass culminating in Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No.4. I hope that’s
enough to whet your appetite!
More than just a taster?
Adoramus choir is looking to strengthen its membership in all voice parts but particularly tenors and basses. We have a Christian ethos and welcome singers sympathetic to our aims: to give concerts that convey a Christian message using a broad range of choral music with an orchestra. We perform 4-5 concerts a year with solo opportunities given to those of an appropriately high standard. We were recently featured on Radio 3 and took part in a Songs of Praise!
Preferably you should be able to read music or have a good ability to memorise music quickly and to blend in with others. In order to give performances of a consistently good standard, the choir requires a consistent level of commitment from all its members, as well as the willingness to sing different styles of music. Joining the choir is subject to audition and a vacancy in your particular section.
We encourage you to come and try us out first before making a commitment and operate a system where you can be an associate member first. As you will appreciate we have many members and limited new spaces, so we always look to ensure that the experience is equally positive for you and Adoramus.
For the first few rehearsals, at most up to one term, you can come and see if it’s for you. To be a full member of the choir we expect people to complete a successful audition– some candidates may be invited to sing with us for a term and have a second audition before being accepted as a full member.
Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings between 8.00pm and 10.00pm at Christchurch Cockfosters. To register your interest please use the email contact below. We look forward to hearing from you!
We are currently recruiting!
Adoramus Piano Accompanist
The post-holder would be paid a fee of £25 per hour. Additional payment will be made for any soloists’ rehearsals, theory or vocal tuition classes pro-rata if asked to take these sessions. Concert day rehearsing and singing is expected and this being on a ex-gratia basis however if they are also required to play in the orchestra they will be paid a flat fee of £90.
Adoramus Choral Assistant
The post-holder will be paid a fee of £22 per hour for Tuesday evening rehearsals and other additional hours for vocal tuition and rehearsals as required. If they are asked to help prepare music for a performance they will be paid £10 per hour. Concert day rehearsing and singing is expected and this being on a ex-gratia basis however if they are also required to direct the choir or play in the orchestra they will be paid a flat fee of £90. We would also appreciate voluntary help with:
Both positions above would require the candidate to be available for at least 85% of the rehearsals over the course of the academic year, which are Tuesday evenings at Christ Church House, Chalk Lane, Cockfosters, Herts EN4 9JQ between 8 and 10 pm.
This is a new role and we have estimated that over a 12 month period the hours required would be 10 hours per week over a 39 week period, not exclusively just academic term time, with some periods being more busy than others. Fees would be at £11 per hour and so £4290 over 1 year is budgeted.
For all the roles the successful candidates would ideally, but not necessarily, have an active Christian faith although they should be supportive of the aims and ethos of Adoramus choir and orchestra. Full details available from our Music Director David Hooke at email@example.com
The Adoramus orchestra was founded with the choir in 1996. It regularly makes distinctive contributions to the concert programmes and has in recent years given concerts where the orchestral repertoire features more prominently. The orchestra has accompanied the choir on visits to Italy, Turkey and France and more recently gave its first performance at the Royal Albert Hall.
Adoramus is looking to identify more musicians of a high standard who have a desire to serve the wider community through outreach concerts at home and abroad and who share our desire to see people won for Christ. We are looking to find musicians who will see this as their ministry and a way of using their primary gift in Christian service.
Most of our present core players have music college training or play to diploma standard and it is this level of expertise we are seeking to recruit.
While being mainly classically oriented, we are joined by a rhythm section for some concerts that can include contemporary praise items and Gospel numbers.

If you don’t sing or play an instrument but would still love to be involved you can become a steward to help Adoramus on concert days. Roles available are for set up; staging, seating and visual/sound equipment, catering, parking assistants, ushers and ticket office. Being on team means you will be at the concert for free and can be supportive without any special skill required. Please let us know if you do have a special skill.
